Design à la campagne
ARCADE Design à la campagne® is, like a cultural centre, a place for the creation and dissemination of design and arts and crafts.
The ARCADE association is based in the Château de Sainte-Colombe-en-Auxois, which it restored between 1986 and 2002.
ARCADE has chosen to develop a cultural and tourist project on the site of the château, within the 17th and 18th century buildings, and has confirmed its positioning by adopting the baseline "Design à la campagne®". ARCADE is thus proposing a strong political, social and cultural commitment: to be a place for the dissemination and creation of contemporary design and arts and crafts in a rural environment. To do this, we encourage encounters, generate resources, guarantee sharing and transmission, support projects, structure networks and encourage experimentation. We welcome people and professional activities in design to promote know-how, encourage cooperation, affirm values of solidarity, respect the living, integrate crucial societal issues, defend a posture: this is how ARCADE wants to organise its project to achieve its objectives.
DESIGN EXHIBITION
ARCADE Design à la campagne® is developing a programme dedicated to design and arts and crafts in 3 exhibition spaces:
- The rooms of the castle host, on 2 levels, the annual thematic exhibition which runs from mid-April to mid-October.
The subject of the exhibition, the design, the scenography, the transport of the pieces, the assembly/disassembly and the mediation are all carried out by the ARCADE salaried and volunteer team. This choice has been taken on board by ARCADE, which is keen to maintain this specificity, recognised by visitors and partners. We propose a way of dealing with the theme and sharing a vision.
- The Galerie des Arcades is a more limited space in terms of surface area, but it ensures accessibility (physical accessibility because it is on one level and guarantees access for people with reduced mobility, visual accessibility because it is visible from the outside thanks to its glass façade) and social and cultural accessibility because there is no entrance fee for visits and meetings organised in this space.
- The outdoor spaces and the courtyard provide space for monumental works and micro-exhibitions, allowing visitors to enjoy the whole site.
LIVING ART
The courtyard of the Château is also an ideal backdrop for the performing arts, with theatre, circus and concert performances that resonate with our exhibitions.
CONTEMPORARY ART
Bertrand Lavier's "De la Piazza San Marco, détail" (2012), created as part of the Nouveaux Commanditaires initiative, has been installed on the site of the Château's former kitchen garden. Depicting a framed view of Piazza San Marco in Venice, the work reminds us of the extent to which artistic influences and techniques intersected between France and the rest of Europe in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
This work is a pretext for questioning our contemporary ways of thinking about the strength of this creative effervescence and its impact on our societal reflections.
