Tumeur ou tutu
Company: Ume
A tale of emancipation in both form and content, Tumeur ou tutu is a euphoric poetic explosion that raises questions about hidden violence in the home, opening the door to the burning issue of the family, especially when the family seems perfectly normal.
She says I, we don't know her first name, and from the age of 3 to 27 she tries to understand what's going on inside her, like a detective with a disconcerting and delightful sense of humour.
Between her mother's cries and her father's disturbing silences, she scrutinises the language of adults and invents her own words and nicknames, mixing up the lexicon to better express what she feels but doesn't quite understand. The mother's psychological and sometimes physical abuse is not visible to the outside world, and even when the child tries to send a few signals to the school or the parents' friends, nobody cares because, after all, "it's none of their business".
Her quest for justice and fairness in words and communication wasn't enough to calm the "monster" that was tugging at her body and head, so as she grew up she turned to mathematics, finding refuge in seemingly implacable logic. But life can't be reduced to an equation.
Even when love silences the "monster", the violence continues, and the only way out is to look the gaping hole in the face, the only way to resolve the equation.
